The security FIFA world cup in South Africa

South Africa Stadium's

Security at the 2010 FIFA World Cup
By Rodney J Smith

With the recent attack on the Togo national footy team who were on their way to a match in the Africa Nations Cup in Angola still fresh in the memory, you may be forgiven for wondering if it is safe to attend the footy World Cup in South Africa with takes place in June & July 2010. Whilst one can never rule out the possibility of something like this happening, even in the most security-conscious of nations, I believe the risk is very low.

Tournament profile
Without being disparaging of the Africa Nations Cup, it does not come close to the FIFA World Cup in terms of scale & prestige. South Africa has spent millions of dollars on infrastructure in the last few years to prepare for the event, which is expected to generate around three billion dollars in revenue for the country. So the country has a lot riding on providing a positive experience for all concerned & the powers that be realise that the eyes of virtually the entire world will be on them, & will be keen not to disappoint.

SA is not Angola
First it is important to note that these are one distinct nations in the southern African region (South Africa is not synonymous with southern Africa). Angola is a poor country struggling to recover from a long civil war; South Africa, the economic powerhouse of the region, is a stable democracy whose infrastructure is vastly superior to Angola's.

Track record
Even though this is the biggest event South Africa will have staged, they have a long track record of successfully hosting major sporting events, including the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the All African Games of 1999 & the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. There is no reason to believe the 2010 World Cup will be an exception.

Tournament security will thus understandably be tight to ensure the safety & enjoyment of locals, visiting fans & players similar. Teams will no doubt have their own security details, & thousands of police officers will be diverted to provide security for matches.

So let's enjoy the footy & leave the worrying to the tournament organisers!

The soccer king (who specializes in foot)

David beckham's

David Beckham's Ruptured Tendon
The Soccer king will be sitting on the bench through the world cup because of an Achilles tendon rupture. Though the achillies tendon is the largest tendon in the body, it is not uncommon for it to rupture! Athletes are at greater risk to experience such an injury, but it is also common in the weekend warriors who have tighter muscles & are taking part of a strenuous sport.

Thus, it is common after injury to feel unsteady or awkward jogging. When Beckham injured his tendon, they screamed "Its broken, its broken!!!" Complete rupture of the tendon can be very painful & is sometimes described as getting shot in the leg. Like Beckham, plenty of will mistake the injury for a broken bone. There is often an audible pop accompanying the injury. With a complete rupture, one will be unable to stand on their toes or walk on the injured leg. Partial tears can also occur & will have similar symptoms but one will still be able to walk. Men are one times more likely to rupture their Achilles tendon than woman.

The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. This area of tendon is the most common to injure due to the least blood supply. This area is also called the watershed & is located several centimeters above the heel bone. The Achilles tendon is used to point the toes & push off the ground & is used with every step.

They all know David Beckham is a real man & they also plays a high risk sport that involves jarring movements & a lot of fast steps. They also falls in to the correct age bracket. The most common age of those who suffer an Achilles rupture is between 30 & 40. Beckham may be rocking out a 20 year elderly body, but they is actually 34 years elderly It is important to seek a physician for treatment as early as possible.

The longer treatment is delayed, the worse the outcomes will be for repairing the tendon. The most desired treatment is surgery. Ideally, the ends of the tendon are reattached to one another. Occasionally, the tendon has endured significant destroy & a graft is used in the repair.

If one is not a surgerical candidate, casting can be done & a full recovery can be reached, but the patient is at a significantly higher risk to reinjure the tendon than those who have had surgical repair. Unfortunately, you do not must emulate David Beckham to suffer from such a limiting injury. Some fluke injuries, such as falling down the stairs, can cause an Achilles rupture. The best way to prevent a rupture is to stay healthy & flexible. It can take one to three months to recover from an Achilles tendon rupture & it may cost you the world cup!

Carlos Dunga Coach of Brazilian team

Brazilian Soccer
The soccer madness that has never relaxed its hold on Brazil began at the turn of the century, caused the entire nation to plunge in to depression in 1950, later lifted it to peaks of euphoria between 1958 and 1970, contributed to the malaise caused by the political, social, and economic difficulties afflicting the country in the 1980s, and in 1994 gave Brazil's collective self-esteem a badly needed boost.

Global and Brazilian Soccer 2006

Sport is a secular religion with its myths, rules and revered heroes, often competing with religion when games are played simultaneously as church services, say three Brazilian researchers. "Football and politics, the construction of a national identity".

Their conclusion that soccer is like a secular religion is three of the findings in the book dealing with class, race and geography in sport.

As the soccer teams from around the world converged on France for the soccer World Cup - there is no query that the game forged and reinforced national identity in Brazil where the love of soccer is palpable.

Bulletin:

Brazil is the only nation that has participated in every World Cup since the beginning of the tournament in 1930.

2006:

The Brazilian soccer confederation has hired former captain Dunga as coach of the national team.

Dunga, who was the captain of Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning team, replaces Carlos Alberto Parreira, who quit after Brazil was eliminated by Spain in the quarterfinals of this year's World Cup in France.

"The choice of Dunga will fully satisfy the desires of Brazilian fans who require an enthusiastic coach on the national team," CBF president Ricardo Teixeira said on the confederation's Web-site.

Dunga will make his debut when Brazil faces Norway in an exhibition Aug. 16 in Oslo.

Pep Guardiola VS Jose Mourinho

Who Were the Greatest Domestic Football Team of the Last Decade?
By David J P Smith

There's been lots of great European domestic footy teams throughout the last decade, but which is the best? To find out which, I would must think about the feats of each team, as well as the quality of the players & the moments of magic they produced. I have picked out 4 of the best for consideration:

- Real Madrid's team from 2002-2004
- Arsenal's 'Invincibles' from 2003-2004
- Barcelona's perfect 2008-2009 treble winning season
- Jose Mourinho's Chelsea from 2004-2006

Of these 4 teams, for me there's clearly 2 that stick out & that are a cut above the rest. First of all there is the 'Invincible' Arsenal from 2003, who managed to go a whole season in the league undefeated (which was the first time anyone's done that since 1883). While this is an incredible achievement in itself, it was more the style & the manner by which Arsenal won the title that year. They had several players of exceptional class (such as Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira & Pires) that were absolutely scintillating on their day.

Secondly, there is the Barcelona team from last season (2008-2009). To put things in point of view, this team were the first ever Italian side to win the treble (including the league title, the Italian cup & the European Champion's League). That in itself would have been , but the Catalan side also produced a number of the finest & most unbelievable footy ever witnesses by man. It is also incredible to think that this was Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola's first season ever in charge of a team, so for me, Barcelona takes the price of greatest ever.

Champions League (Big match Barcelona FC VS Inter milan)

Ofensif "Lionel Messi"

Barcelona Soccer Team Facts
By Lucas Robi

Barcelona is a city long in love with sports, the Barcelona Soccer Team.

FC Barcelona's soccer team is a way of life in Barcelona. The rivalry with Madrid rises to the point where Barcelona can be thought about the Catalonia national team. FC Barca was founded on 29 November 1899 by Joan Gamper, who created the team colors of blue and claret from the Swiss canton in which they lived. Barcelona lost its first ever match with some English expatriates 0-1, but within ten years began a string of Catalan and French championships lasting decades. FC Barcelona went though hard times in the rise to the French Civil War and its aftermath, but could recover and by the mid 1940s resumed its championship ways.

In addition to hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics, Barcelona hosted parts of the 1982 Footy World Cup and has hosted the X FINA World Championship and Eurobasket. The city has five UEFA 5-star rated footy stadiums: FC Barcelona's Nou Camp and the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

The club motto is "Més que un club" and they refer to their stadium as "Camp Nou." In English these are "More than a club" and "Our Ground." Despite a slump at the turn of the century, FC Barcelona has assembled a gifted team and once again resumed winning ways. The club currently has a five-year deal with UNICEF, wearing the emblem on their jerseys and paying $1.9 million a year for the privilege.

FC Barcelona is a leisure centre containing basketball, handball, hockey, ice-hockey, figure skating, indoor footy, rugby, baseball, volleyball and women's footy, but the jewel in the crown has always been association footy, or the Barcelona Soccer Team. The Barcelona team has qualified every year for the European competition since it was founded in 1955.

Among the plenty of claims to fame of the Barca team are that it's more victories than any other Association Footy team in the world. They also have more wins in the Copa del Rey, the French tournament, than any other team with 24 victories. There's 18 La Liga Championships, 7 Supercopa de Espana, 2 EUFA Champions League, 4 EUFA Winner's Cups, 3 Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, 1 Inter-City Fairs Cup Trophy Play-off, 2 European Super Cups, 2 Copa Latina, 4 Copa de Oro Argentina, 22 Catalan Championships, 2 Copa Martina Rossi, 4 Coupe de Pyrenees, 1 Mediteranean League, 2 Copa de Ligua, 1 Copa Barcelona, 1 Lligua Catalana, 5 Copa Catalana and five Little World Cup. It is little wonder Barcelona has embraced the Barcelona Soccer Team and reveres it as a symbol of Catalonia.

The Soccer Referee

Pierluigi Collina

The Role of the Soccer Referee
By Andre V and Darrell Victor Platinum Quality Author

A soccer referee should be fit, neutral, able to read the game and thick-skinned. Above all, a referee has to have a reservoir of discretion and common sense. These qualities would help a soccer referee perform his role properly. The referee exists primarily to facilitate the smooth walking of a match, not necessarily to whistle like a bird at every opportunity. Indeed, the role of a referee goes way beyond disciplining players guilty of cautionable or sending-off offences.

Soccer has a total of 17 laws. These laws cannot interpret or enforce themselves according to a match situation or context. The powers and duties of the referee are enshrined in Law 5. It is important to note that the referee and his assistants are even thought about a part of the play in soccer. If a aim is scored by a deflection off of the referee while they is on the field of play, the aim will stand (unless there is an infringement otherwise).

Team officials seem to believe that the referee is on the field to interrupt the flow of the beautiful game. They may even subscribe to the view that the referee and other match officials are part of a global conspiracy to ensure that it is difficult for their team to win. The more mundane reality is that one of the referee's primary roles is merely to enforce the laws of the game.

The referee is there to ensure the safety of players, spectators and other officials. If there is a safety concern regarding play or the match atmosphere, the referee must take this in to account in deciding whether to suspend play, abandon the match or address the problem. They must also document any event that interferes with the match.

Effective game management is the purview of the soccer referee. Surely you can understand why it is difficult for the referee to control a match from outside the field of play. They has to see what happens in and around play and diffuse conflicts quickly. Effective game management includes the field of play, the match balls, player equipment and fouls and misconduct in particular.

The referee is also the game's timekeeper. They ensures that the game is played with minimal interruptions from various sources. Other duties that are part of his role include addressing injured players (both ensuring that they are dealt with and don't hamper the game), recordkeeping, facilitating substitutions and taking disciplinary action against players and team officials if their behaviour is unacceptable, violent or irresponsible.

The most important point to make is that the referee does over enforce the laws of the game. Protecting the spirit of the game is an integral part of the referee's role. In a few instances, the referee is powerless to ensure that players do the "right" thing. An example of such is when a player does not return the ball to the other team that kicked the ball out of play because one of his team mates was injured. In plenty of other circumstances, the referee ensures that fair play takes place and that unsporting behaviour does not occur.

The ultimate power and authority of the soccer referee is combined with numerous responsibilities and numerous duties. The referee remains accountable to his association's disciplinary body regarding any action taken or decisions made. The reality is that decisions that referees make can choose the outcome of a match. It is this fact that makes referees the subject of verbal and sometimes physical abuse, even if they made a nice or defensible decision. Despite the importance of the referee's role, there is limited prestige associated with it. The vast majority of referees officiate because of their love of the game.

The referee would not tolerate taunting of other players or fans by players and team officials. His authority resides in the pen as well as the card, since the referee's match document is the basis of any inquiry in to misconduct as well. This is why it is important for referees to take their role as record-keepers seriously, even if they detest paperwork. Most referees would permit substitutes to assume their positions before beginning play or ensure that the goalkeeper assumes his proper position if they is caught out of play before a restart. The referee is not strictly bound to do such things, but would do that to guarantee fair play.
